What is the 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh?
200-Hour Yoga TTC in Rishikesh is a holistic program: asana practices (Hatha, Vinyasa, etc.), pranayama and breath practices, meditation and mantra, anatomy and physiology, yoga philosophy and teaching methodology. Your teaching sessions, assignments, assessment, accommodation, food and certification are also provided to you on successful completion. The idea is to prepare you with the necessary knowledge and experience that you can start teaching.
Who can join a 200-Hour TTC?
The yoga practitioners may include any committed person who is interested in yoga-both beginners and intermediate students. This does not require any long prior training, but some simple physical conditioning is beneficial. The teaching is designed in such a way that it favors personal development. Teachers usually provide adjustments to the less flexible, and theory is constructed on an underlying level and you will not be left behind when you are still new to yoga.
What is the number of hours per day and days long in duration of training?
The 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training is about 3-4 weeks (approximately 21-28 days) with depending on the school. Regular practice is usually 6-8 hours of instruction, and other meditation and self-practice, mantra or philosophy classes. There are times that the day can be longer, particularly when there is a practical assessment, teaching practice, and excursions.
What certification would I be getting and is it globally accepted?
You are awarded a certificate by the yoga school upon completion of the training that typically is Yoga Alliance Registered School (RYS 200). This will enable you to get certification as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) by the Yoga Alliance that has a global presence. This implies that after certification, you are allowed to teach in numerous studios around the world.
What are the preparations before coming to the 200-Hour TTC?
To prepare before the course, it is recommended to: establish a regular yoga/meditation practice; read a little yoga philosophy (e.g., Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita passages); bring comfortable clothes, yoga mat and other props (when necessary); have a valid visa; pack personal items to live in Rishikesh (light clothes, personal hygiene, insect repellent). Mental preparedness and receptive-ness can help as well.
What is the mean size of classes, teacher-student ratio?
200-Hour Yoga TTC are typically held in relatively small classrooms, e.g. 15-25 students in order to provide personal attention. Often you can have several teachers/assistants in the batch, particularly when doing asana and adjustments, hence getting feedback and correction. The low ratio is greater practical assistance in alignment and teaching practice.
What ratio of training is practical or theory?
The training is not only theoretical (philosophy, anatomy, ethics, breath work) but also practical (asana, teaching, adjustments, meditation). Typical practice of about 50-60% hours will apply with the remainder being theory and discussion. Practice teaching is part and parcel: you will teach under supervision classes or sections to gain confidence in teaching.
Are there any end course assessment or exams?
Yes. A future inspection normally has both practical and written tests. You may be invited to chair an asana group, teach pranayama/meditation, write about philosophy, anatomy or methodology. There are also attendance requirements (usually minimum 90-95%) to make sure that you are fully attending to get certification.
What are the type of the accommodation and food I should expect?
In Rishikesh, accommodation in yoga schools is fairly basic, though clean, and is often shared, with or without private or semi-private alternatives. Food is vegetarian, sattvic/yogic cuisine, usually freshly-cooked using local ingredients. It is included in three meals a day; occasionally snacks. The school may also be hygienically and comfortably different, which is better to enquire or have photos beforehand.
What is the follow-up of the 200-Hour TTC? What will I be able to start teaching or to help in the long-term?
Once you have finished the 200-Hour TTC, you will be certified, and you will be able to start your teaching career teaching basic yoga classes, both locally and internationally (depending on the demand). Most of the schools provide post-course support: mentorship, support to future batches, access to alumni networks. The long-term advantages are the practice on a deeper level, better knowledge of the yoga philosophy, and the possibility to improve your skills by the means of retreats, workshops, or further education.

As the old saying goes, "We are what we eat". It is always necessary to watch what we consume, for it is a known fact that the food we eat not only affects our physical health, but also translates into our emotions and thoughts. Instead of categorising food into the usual carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, the science of Yoga groups food according to the way they influence our mind and body. The state of our mind and body is divided into three stages– Sattva, Rajas and Tamas. Tamasic foods are the kind of foods that affect you in such a way that we end up feeling lethargic and dysfunctional. Rajasic foods tend to make you bring about hyperactivity and a sort of irritable restlessness. Sattvic foods, however, are the most balanced. They make you feel just right, in good spirits, and full of life.

I did my 200 hr YTT here in Feb/March 2018 with some of the best teachers worldwide who made afterwards international career. Dr. Amaravathi Eraballi is still there and it is definitely worth to learn from her! She is passionate and her English is amazing. I had 4 wonderful weeks there, which were the base and start for my ongoing Yoga teacher career in Switzerland. Teaching 5 years now I still think back of the beginnings in Rishikesh where it all started to original. Very thankful for the time.
I had a wonderful time at Rishikesh Yog Sansthan where I did the 15 day retreat. There was me and two YTTC students in total and very quickly, a family bond formed between us students, teachers and other staff. The teachers were fantastic. The asana teacher, Shubham, progressed me into another level of practice; Ammu was very knowledgeable, wise and taught me a lot; and Poormina encouraged meaningful meditation and was so lovely!
I recently travelled from the UK to Rishikesh just to visit Rishikesh Yog Sansthan on a private basis, and it was wonderful experience. Teachers knowledge of yoga is impressive and they were always willing to answer my questions patiently and thoughtfully. Dr. Ammu and her team were warm, welcoming and kind throughout my stay and I wish I could have stayed longer. The new school building and rooms are bright, clean and each have their own en-suite bathroom. The food was healthy and delicious and our meals together were a special time - it felt like we were part of a family. I hope to be back next year for more training with the school, they really go out of their way to make sure everyone is comfortable and cared for. If you are thinking of completing any yoga teacher training with Rishikesh Yog Sansthan, I would highly recommend going for it. You’ll come away with an incredibly enriching and authentic experience and an opportunity to make lifelong friends from all over the world.
I have a great time thanks to the amazing teachers Amaravathi Eraballi, Shubham Bhandari and Spirituall Yoga. Their dedication and attention to my needs made me improve greatly and let me find where I needed to focus in order to grow. I am very grateful to the patience they showed with me (great amount was needed) and their kindness. I would recommend any course with them. ♥️
I undertook RYT200 in Rishikesh where Amaravathi taught the physiology studies. Her lessons were clear, the pace of which catered for the individual students; diagrams, cross references, examples were included. The lessons were open to questions and a subject was fully covered and discussed to gain a proper understanding before moving onto the next. The feel was relaxed without rush and fun, yet informative and in depth. She is a kind person always smiling and happy to discuss anything. Her knowledge of Yoga is second to none and this shows within the physical practice as well as the theoretical. I would without a doubt study more with Amaravathi and be sure to come away with a deeper understanding of not just Yoga bit life as a whole.
